I tried to see if there was any info about how long Teddy lived or anything. No luck. So we’ll always have to wonder I guess, what happened to Teddy. But the picture on the zoo web site of the cage they had been then makes it obvious why they were passing bear to other zoos.
Zoo’s reply to my query:
Dear Nancy,
We have received your inquiry through the Oregon Zoo web page, and I regret to tell you there are no detailed records of the bear you ask about. There are some general records about receiving bear cubs, sometimes more than one at a time, because wildlife regulations were not enforced like they are now. Although there is still a lot of non-sanctioned activity with wildlife.
We could not tell you anything specific about a specific bear. Most of the bears were sent on to other zoos, except the few kept by Portland for exhibit.
Sincerely,
Jan Mothershed, Animal Registrar
