Here’s what I found in the Aberdeen Herald about Beth (many other Achey references). (In her younger years she went by Lizzie)
It was fun to learn that if you missed your mail they advertised in the paper to come pick it up!
Must have been exciting for a 12 year old.
When 16 she was announced for a recitation
at the
Theophanian Society (Theophania was a Greek God & from what I can find this society disbanded MANY years ago but was kind of a cultural society doing plays, readings, holding flowers shows & such)
Then on April 5 she was burned with the explosion of a gas stove at the home of A. J. Anderson on West 9th. she was taken to the hospital & was still there when they reported it on the 9th but doing well. A month later she was well and in the chorus for a play.
When the group put on the play “Trial By Jury” she was in the ‘opera’ in May of 1906.
When 19 she wrote the story of her own heroism –
In January 1913 the gossip section tells that she is returning from visiting a friend in Shelton. Finally at age 24 the paper announces her engagement to Joseph Malinowski.
