Bees Don’t Faze Highclimber
Aberdeen World September 7, 1960
NEWSKAH VALLEY – A lesser man might have set a world record for going down a tree yesterday – but not Ed Malinowski, Weyerhaeuser highclimber long since past the age when most highclimbers are grounded. (Transcriber’s note – Ed was 75.)
Malinowski, topping a tree 140 feet aloft, was greeted inhospitably by a family of bees which considered him an intruder in their happy home.
Despite stings he calmly finished the job.
Editor’s note: I was told by my mother, Emily Airhart that he was alone. He went out to top the tree for the crew to come the next day. He came off the tree & started driving his pick-up to town, but he had been stung so many times he passed out. Luckily he was close enough to civilization that there was some passing traffic, so he was found and got the help he needed.
